BUCHLOV CASTLE
A gothic-renaissance castle
National Cultural Monument
This castle can be considered as one of the oldest castles in Moravia. The first explicit reference is from 1300, however, an earlier origination is assumed, around the second half of the 13th century the addition of late Romanesque architectonical elements in the castle prove its old origin. Originally, it was perhaps a castle palace protected by two towers and surrounded by a rampart. Until the 14th century, the castle was a monarchic property, however, then its importance decreased and from the 15th century, it was pawned to various holders. One of the more important owners were lords of Zahrádka, who built the northern wing with late gothic oriels and the northern wing with knights’ hall in the 90’s of the 15th century. From 1511, the castle was in aristocratic possession. Under Zástřizls, after 1544, a new ring of fortification was built and at the turn of the 16th and the 17th century, the interiors were rebuilt significantly. In the 17th century, the castle was only lightly adapted.
The last family seating there were Berchtolds. They established a museum in the castle at the end of the 19th century, they made the castle available to public and they did not live there anymore.
The castle is nowadays together with the St. Barbara Chapel on the neighbouring hill Modla a National Cultural Monument.

CHATEAU BUCHLOVICE
A baroque chateau built in the style of Italian villa
National Cultural Monument
As the lifestyle was changing during the baroque era, the nearby Castle Buchlov ceased being suitable for permanent residence. Therefore, Jan Dětřich from Petřvald had the Chateau Buchlovice built in the 90’s of the 17th century. The chateau building was inspired by Italian villas that fitted with landscape environments. The building consists of two semicircle independent buildings. Firstly, a so-called lower chateau designated for both occupation and representation. The building was completed around 1701. The interiors were decorated by stuccos (B. Fontana) and paintings. During 1710 – 38, an opposite building of the chateau (upper chateau) was built, which served for farming purposes. The park around the chateau was founded in the Italian style; later on, it underwent adaptations in the French and English styles. Smaller adaptations of the chateau also took place in the 18th and in the 19th centuries. The chateau is considered as one of the purest baroque villas of the Italian type in Moravia.

VELEHRAD
Velehrad belongs to one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Moravia. It is closely connected with the Cyril and Method tradition. The cult of Slavic Apostles, who are together with St. Benedict co-patrons of Europe, make Velehrad a place, which exceeds the borders of our state with its importance.
According to archaeological discoveries and historic investigation, the political and administrative centre of the Great Moravian Empire and the metropolis of its first archbishop St. Method can be connected with the wider area of Uherské Hradiště, Staré Město with its surrounding and Velehrad.
The beginnings of the present Velehrad go back to the beginning of the 13th century, when the first Cistercian monastery in Moravia founded by the Moravian margrave Vladislav Jindřich in Romanesque style with the influence of early gothic. The extensive complex together with the convent Church of the assumption of the Virgin Mary was completed in the forties of the 13th century.
The interior of the Velehrad sanctuary is grandiose and it leaves a lasting impression on its visitors. Most precious are the baroque chancel pews, which are registered in the list of UNESCO.
The foundations of the original church are partially open to public in the lapidary, which was achieved by elevating the floor of the present church during the baroque rebuilding. Outside the basilica is located a gothic chapel named Cyrilka with an interior, which is adapted to the celebration of the eastern liturgy with iconostasis in front of the main alter.

ARCHAEO-OPEN-AIR MUSEUM MODRÁ
A Great Moravian fortified seat in the central Pomoraví area from the 9th century
The archaeo-open-air Museum Modrá - The Great Moravian seat in the central Pomoraví area is located near to Uherské Hradiště on the road between Staré Město and Velehrad. It is an important subject, which illustratively enlightens one of the most important stages of our national history. The open-air museum carries on with its everyday life of educational performances, programmes, trial melting of metals, manufacture of ceramics, agricultural manufacture and continuously works on archaeological exploration. Come and see our ancient past.
It is an archaeological open-air museum in the central Pomoraví area, in which copies and at intervals, the originals of discovered articles, are exhibited.
The complex consists of a background for its visitors – restaurant „Rybářská bašta“ and the buildings of the open-air museum itself – Watchtowers, the magnifico’s house, craftsman workshops, agricultural buildings, residential bunkers, an aboveground house, a granary, a well and a palisade bordering part of the complex.
Enjoyment is to be found here not only by numerous tourists and adults, but also by primary schools owing to its educational programmes and because the whole locality is going to be supplemented with demonstrations of „live creations“ by craftsmen.
By the southern periphery of the village of Modrá in the locality „Na Díle“ another National Cultural Monument is located – remains of the stone Church of St. John the Baptist from the turn of the 8th and 9th century. Its replica was built adjacent to it, which is also a part of the open-air museum and is a great attraction for tourists flowing into Velehrad.

Museum of Tupesy Ceramics
The museum revives the tradition of the potter’s craft, primarily majolica, whose increase was reported in the Slovácko Region with the arrival of skilled craftsmen in the 16th century. An unprecedented expansion of majolica ceramics manufacture at the beginning of the 20th century is connected to the village Tupesy. Finally but yet importantly, it is also a reminder of a characteristic ceramic decorating – so-called Tupesy Rose, which influenced the decorating of ceramics over a wide area for many generations. In the original version and in many variants, this form of decorating is still used until the present day. By the exposition in the Museum of Tupesy Ceramics, we are trying to praise the old master ceramists, in whose heritage dozens of ceramics and ceramic workshops over a wide area continue nowadays.
The Museum of Tupesy Ceramics is located in a premises, which in the past served for the manufacture of ceramics and it is situated in the centre of the village of Tupesy. It is an original landmark of folk architecture, adapted as period exposition – dwelling of a potter, which provided evidence about the manner of their work and life at the turn of the 19th and 20th century. To this part, the premises of a new exposition capturing the history and technology of majolica ceramics in Tupesy, is connected. Through a courtyard, in which summer ateliers and sitting are located, you enter into another building, in which the current manufacture of the Ceramics Denisa and a sample outlet of ceramics are situated.
All buildings are designed so they satisfy each interested person in the history of ceramics manufacture, excursions and school trips, but they also serve as alternative premises for cultural events and workshops. In the future, we also count on organising potter fairs or various profession meetings.
For those seriously interested, we offer the opportunity to manufacture their own piece of ceramics or an opportunity to paint such piece themselves.
After its kilning, you can take it home with you – maybe as a personally manufactured and very original present.
Come and learn about a craft, which has indelibly gone down in the history of the village of Tupesy and of the entire region!
You can also come and choose a nice piece of ceramics – perhaps just for enjoyment. We are looking forward to your visit!
